The Legendary, cave where, over 500 years a go a baby was born. Little did her mother know how famous or how feared her baby would become, or that millions of people would visit her birthplace, the cave she only used out of desperation! The cave itself is a collapsed flowstone deposit, originally created by the same waters that now flow over the Petrifying Well approximately 12,000 years ago.

Don’t forget to make a wish in the Well of Good Fortune, it's a very old tradition. It is a natural rock formation fed by the same magical waters as The Petrifying Well. Many re-visit, just to make a wish – and swear they come true!

Mother Shiptons Cave is close to the Centre of the Market town of Knaresborough where you will find local shops, cafes and sceanic river walks.
